The Herringbone House

Our clients bought this post war house following a probate sale, when very little had been done in the way of upgrades for decades. Here was a perfect opportunity to turn this 'blank canvas' into a brilliant modern home. The repeating brick arches over three floors is a striking design and a source of inspiration for ongoing projects.

The brief included, creating a open plan space perfect for family time and hosting friends, creating a luxurious master suite and generally refurbishing the house to create a comfortable and environmentally conscious home. We started the project by looking closely at the spaces needed and the priorities of how the house was to be used, to work out the best possible layout.

The original property had a dormer in the loft and a small first floor outrigger, however these created rooms with limited ceiling height. By replacing these spaces with flat roofed extensions we were able to create a large master suite in the second floor and a generous family bathroom in the first floor. On the ground floor a rear extension and opening up created a open plan living/dining/kitchen space and utility room through a hidden door in the kitchen.

The bricks chosen for the portals was carefully selected (after reviewing various options), to blend with the bricks of the existing house and surrounding area. The contemporary white glazing and roof detail gives neat, sharp edges to the unique brick portals as well as tying into the existing windows.

PLOT were appointed for full services for this project from initial concept, through planning, detailed architecture and interior design through to tendering and contract administration during the build. This allowed a fully considered design and ensured the build team appointed could deliver this special design to a brilliant standard.
